Three Teams Qualify for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay
Concacaf U-17 Women’s Championship to Resume June 6-12 in Bradenton, Florida
Concacaf has announced that the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship will resume next month at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The nine remaining matches are set to be played from June 6-12.
The competition was originally scheduled for April 19 to 29 at the National Football Stadium in Managua, Nicaragua, but safety concerns led to cancellation of the event on April 22. At the time of cancellation, the USA and the rest of Group B had played just one match, while each team in Group A had completed two games.
Three teams from this tournament will advance to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay: two semifinal winners and the third-place game winner.
The USA currently stands at the top of Group B after taking down Costa Rica 4-0 on April 20. The U-17s resume group stage play against Bermuda on June 6 and Canada on June 8.
After three days of competition in Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Nicaragua were mathematically eliminated from semifinal qualification in Group A and will not rejoin the tournament. Haiti and Mexico will battle for the group’s top spot.
