Continental FAI Women’s Senior Cup set to kick off

The first round of the Continental FAI Women’s Senior Cup gets underway this weekend with a couple of exciting fixtures.

On Saturday afternoon, Shelbourne U18 LFC will host Cork City Women’s FC in Tolka Park, while St Catherine’s LFC take on Galway WFC in Greenogue on Sunday.

Cork’s trip to Dublin will be an early test for Niall O’Regan’s team as they prepare for the upcoming Continental Tyres Women’s National League having made a number of noticeable signings.

Galway WFC, meanwhile, are also getting ready for the new domestic campaign and their manager Don O’Riordan wants to start on a positive note even though he is aware of the quality of their opponents.

“We certainly won’t be taking St Catherine’s lightly because they are a good club with a good pedigree and I’m sure they will be up for our game,” said O’Riordan.

“We have high expectations this season and we want to improve on what we did last season. That starts in the FAI Women’s Cup, but we have to make sure that we perform against St Catherine’s to reach the next round.”
