Colombia kicks-off Copa América Femenina 2018 with big win over Uruguay; Chile and Paraguay play to 1-1 draw.

The Copa América Femenina 2018 kicked-off yesterday with action from Group A, here is a recap of the opening day match results.

CONMEBOL’s qualification to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2020 Olympic Games and the 2019 Pan American Games is underway as ten nations battle it out to earn themselves a berth at the biggest global women’s football tournaments!

Colombia 7-0 Uruguay

The Colombian team kicked off their Group A campaign with a 7-0 win over Uruguay, with Catalina Usme scoring four! The deadlock was broken early in the 2nd minute of the game through Usme before Daniela Montoya doubled their lead in the 17th minute. Colombia scored another two more goals against Uruguay before the end of the first half thanks to Yoreli Rincón and Catalina Usme netting her second.

In the second half it did not take Usme long to score her hat-trick to make it 5-0, and the sixth came from Isabella Echeverry. It was in injury time that Usme netted her fourth to end the game 7-0.

Next up for Colombia is Chile, whilst Uruguay have a rest-day.

Chile 1-1 Paraguay

Chile and Paraguay shared the points after their Copa América Femenina 2018 opening match ended 1-1.

It wasn’t until the second half that we saw the first goal of the game, Gloria Villamayor put Paraguay ahead in the 53rd minute.

Yanara Aedo equalised for Chile in the 62nd minute and despite Chile having the most opportunities in the later stages of the match they were unable to convert and it ended a draw.

Paraguay face Peru in their second match and Chile take on Colombia.

Group B action starts today!

Group B get their tournament campaign underway today (Thursday 5 April 2018) as Ecuador take on Venezuela and Brazil face Argentina!
