Could Real Madrid have a women’s football team soon
There are increasing calls for Real Madrid to form a women’s team under the club banner, leaving open the question whether or not it will happen soon.Real remain one of the four La Liga teams that still doesn’t have a ladies side.Getafe, Las Palmas and Celta Vigo are the others, which is strange considering how many clubs on the continent have embraced women’s football.Female Real supporters groups are stunned.”We wonder why Real Madrid, a club at the global summit of our sport, still remains oblivious to the obvious fact that Women, who make up over half of society, are fully integrated into the world of football,” the statement read.
The calls have been met positively by La Liga president Javier Tebas.”I’m convinced they will want to be involved in this female movement,” he stated. On Sunday, the female supporters club teamed up with the company AR10 and their president of sport Ana Rossell spoke of the fight for equality in football.”I have fought for over 20 years for a female team within Real Madrid and I will not take no for an answer. “I always say that the impossible simply takes a little while longer.”Real’s involvement would not only be a boost to women’s football but it could also have the best team in the world considering all the Madridistas” she added.
