Cristiane is back…. ‘I believe I will have many more people happy with my return than disappointed.’

Brazil legend Cristiane has announced on Instagram that she will return to the Brazil national women’s football team, coming out of her decision to take early retirement over a controversial coaching change back in September 2017.

Cristiane’s and other key members of the Brazil WNT early retirements caused upset among the women’s footballing community, world class players not being a part of the international stage due to alleged issues with the Federation was not acceptable.

The news today is a massive positive step for the Brazil women’s soccer and the global game. Below is a roughly translated text from Cristiane’s Instagram post as well as the original post.

Cristiane –

Another new stage in life. In career. In the pleasure of doing what I love is playing football. I was approached by Coach Vadão, who appealed to me on behalf of the technical committee so that I could serve again the Brazilian Team. It was a request for me to return. This was not the only one. Many people came to me and asked for my return. The reason for my departure was one: to try to help the sport in another way, because the girls were not being heard. What I was given during that time off is that at least one woman was hired and is working in each base category. They put a woman in the main group. We will have meetings with the finance department, so that the issue of image rights is explained to all girls. Is it enough? No. It’s little, but they’re doing it. Sounds like a good start. Today we can not say that they are doing nothing, at least they are moving. I’m here to feel if all this is really happening. I want to see the changes before making a decision. Judged I’ll be, just like I was when I made the decision to leave last year. We will never please everyone. But if I do come back, I will not be looking after myself. Once again I’ll be looking at all the girls. By modality. I will help give more voice to our group. I believe I will have many more people happy with my return than disappointed. What I can say is that my mission continues and we have already asked for a meeting with the current president. Everything I’ve done, done, and still will never do was for me. But all the way. I will continue to be Cristiane always, seeking day after day the best for our group.

Mais uma nova etapa na vida. Na carreira. No prazer de fazer o que eu amo que é jogar futebol. Fui procurada pelo professor Vadão, que me fez um apelo em nome da comissão técnica para eu voltar a servir a Seleção Brasileira. Foi um pedido para eu voltar. Este não foi o único. Muitas pessoas me procuraram e pediram pela minha volta. O motivo da minha saída foi um só: tentar ajudar a modalidade de outra maneira, pq as meninas não estavam sendo ouvidas. O que me foi passado durante esse tempo fora é que ao menos uma mulher foi contratada e está trabalhando em cada categoria de base. Colocaram uma mulher no grupo principal. Teremos reuniões com o departamento financeiro, para que seja explicado para todas as meninas a questão do direito de imagem. É suficiente? Não. É pouco, mas estão fazendo. Me parece um bom começo. Hoje não podemos falar que não estão fazendo nada, ao menos estão se movimentando. Estou aqui para sentir se realmente tudo isso está acontecendo. Quero ver as mudanças antes de tomar uma decisão. Julgada eu vou ser, assim como fui quando tomei a decisão de sair no ano passado. Jamais vamos agradar a todos. Mas, se eu realmente voltar, não estarei olhando por mim. Mais uma vez estarei olhando por todas as meninas. Pela modalidade. Vou ajudar a dar mais voz ao nosso grupo. Acredito que terei muito mais pessoas felizes com a minha volta do que decepcionadas. O que posso dizer é que a minha missão continua e já pedimos uma reunião com o presidente atual. Tudo que eu fiz, faço e ainda vou fazer nunca foi por mim. Mas por toda a modalidade. Vou continuar sendo a Cristiane de sempre, buscando dia após dia o melhor para o nosso grupo. Agradeço a minha família sempre pelo apoio, aos meus fãs, às crianças e principalmente às minhas amigas e companheiras de Seleção, que são e serão as mais impactadas com o maior desenvolvimento da nossa modalidade.
