Dates as to when the Women’s Game will hopefully restart in the Leagues worldwide
Sweden:
The Swedish OBOS Damallsvenskan is hoping to Start Saturday 27th June and Sunday 28th June in line with the wishes communicated in the days from Elitfotboll Dam (EFD) where a majority of the participating associations are required to have at least three weeks preparation time before the start of the series. A condition for the start of the series to be considered is a message from the Public Health Authority about restarting the elite football.
Norway:
The Norwegian Football Association (NFF) decided that the clubs in the Toppserien and the OBOS league started football training on Monday 25th May, which has been accelerated 14 days from the original date. At the same time this means that the start-up for series games can be moved forward a bit.
The Secretary General of the NFF, Pål Bjerketvedt, says that the decision comes after a complete survey and clear feedback from the clubs at the various league levels.
Based on good experience with starting up for training in the Elite series and after the input and wishes of the league associations and clubs in both the Toppserien and OBOS league, we have today decided that start-up for phase 2 can start 14 days earlier than originally planned. That is, the clubs in the said leagues will be able to start football training no earlier than Monday, May 25. This is, of course, provided the NFF’s protocol for training is followed. We feel that the clubs are highly motivated to get started next week and that they are working well and concretely to prepare what is needed to be able to kick start, says Bjerketvedt.
Start of matches in the Toppserien and the OBOS league is scheduled for the first week in July. Details and adjusted game plan will be discussed with interest groups and right holders.
Italy:
Italy’s Women’s Serie A suspension of activities until resume date announced.
During the Federal Council it was decided to verify in the next few days the conditions of recovery of the women’s Serie A championship, with the final decision that will be taken based on the applicability of the health protocols by the Clubs and on the availability of contributions from the FIGC. The deadline for the end of the sporting season is however set – as also established for men’s professional competitions – on 20 August.
As regards the Serie B, on the basis of the general conditions and the exceptional situation caused by the Covid-19 emergency, the Board resolved to definitively interrupt the championship, postponing the resolution on the results of the same competitions to another resolution.
“The choice to still believe in the conclusion of our elite championship, which is only 6 days away, is a challenge that the players, among whom we find the sporting heritage of our National A team, will welcome with enthusiasm given their determination and dedication – said the president of the Women’s Football Division Ludovica Mantovani – This pause for reflection, which puts our Serie A in a unique situation within the Federation, must be seen as an opportunity, it being understood that the safety protocols and the contributions federal, which will be discussed in depth in the coming days, will be decisive in understanding whether the Clubs will be able to resume the sporting season “.
England:
The FA Women’s Super League & Women’s Championship has confirmed the decision to end the 2019-20 season for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and the FA Women’s Championship.
USA, NWSL
The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) today announced an extension to its team training moratorium through, and including May 24, 2020.
All NWSL players may continue to use outdoor team training fields for voluntary household workouts and the league is involved in regular discussions with its medical task force on the progression through each phase of the Return to Play Phased Protocol. Clubs are still required to follow all federal, state, and local mandates.
The league remains in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and health and safety remains the top priority. We will continue to provide further updates as they become available. (Awaiting updates)
