The 23-year old will wear the number 5 jersey for VfL Wolfsburg. Van Egmond was most recently under contract for 1.FFC Frankfurt.
Quote from the club’s official website:
“In Emily, we have signed a young all-rounder with international class, who has already gathered experience in the Bundesliga and Champions-League. We have won a player who can operate in almost any position, be that in attack or defensively… The transfer is, to an extent, a reaction to the lengthy absences of Luisa Wensing, Julia Simic and Ewa Pajor – three players the team are really missing at the moment. For that reason, we are very happy to have won over Emily.” – Ralf Kellermann, head-coach
Emily van Egmond has recently returned from Brazil where she was competing at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with Australia. The Matildas were knocked out at the quarter-final stage on penalties by the hosts Brazil. To date, she has made 57 appearances for her country and scored 14 goals.
