Equatorial Guinea win appeal to compete in the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Equatorial Guinea has won their appeal just days before the start of the Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2018.
Kenya had replaced Equatorial Guinea for the 11th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and were drawn in Group B alongside the champions Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia.
It is assumed that Equatorial Guinea’s reinstatement will be at the expense of Kenya’s place at the tournament.
The Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2018 is a crucial tournament as it serves as qualification to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
However, Equatorial Guinea are not able to qualify for the World Cup 2019 following October 2017’s FIFA Disciplinary Committee announcement that it had sanctioned the Equatorial Guinea Football Association with expulsion from the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.
