Fara Williams signs new Reading contract.
Fara Williams has signed a new contract at Reading until June 2021.
Williams signed for Reading in 2017 from Arsenal, making her debut against Sunderland in September of that year. She was the side’s top goal-scorer last season and is currently holding that honour for the 2019-20 campaign, along with Lisa-Marie Utland, with 6 goals in all competitions thus far.
She is England’s most capped player, having made 172 appearances and gone to three World Cups, four European Championships and the 2012 Olympics.
Manager Kelly Chambers awarded Williams with the vice-captaincy of the side before the 2019-20 season began and due to an injury to captain Natasha Harding, Williams has led the Royals out on several occasions this season.
The Royals returned to winning ways in the WSL on Sunday beating Birmingham City 1-0 thanks to a Amalie Eikeland first half lob as they moved into 4th in the table.
Williams was named The Football Association Young Player of the Year in 2002, FA Players’ Player of the Year in 2009 and FA International Player of the Year in both 2007 and 2009.
Reading are next in action against Arsenal in the Continental Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night before they take on Everton in League action on Sunday.
