I do not deny anything you say. I only suggest seeing things from a different perspective. Use a little bit of imagination and place yourself in the position of FIFA. OK, you can nominate some players based on their good performance in frauenbundesliga. But, then, will not other leagues of the world insist they must be considered as well? Which of them you include then? France, Sweden, England, Brazil, Nigeria, Japan…you will probably say “yes” to them. Korea, Russia, Mexico…“why not?” Greece, South Africa, Azerbaijan, Gambia, Dominica… “well…”

The point is: you must draw a line somewhere. But, where? How do you convince the nations placed on the “wrong” side? Is such decision viable politically? (As I wrote, I think it is viable “scientifically.”)

Yes. Messi is elected because he plays well for Barcelona, not Argentina. However, if I’m not mistaken, men’s soccer was practically a European monopoly for many years and it is widely accepted performance in European leagues is enough to elect global MVP. Men’s Ballon d’Or award began in 1956, and, all these years ever since, awardees belonged to European clubs (including Russia). I think this is rather a special case which can not be applied to other fields.
