Sharon Boyle all set for first female only Kickstart 1 course

Sharon Boyle believes the first female only FAI Kickstart 1 coaching course taking place this weekend represents a big step forward for women’s football in Ireland.

The Republic of Ireland Women’s Under 16 manager will be one of the mentors on the course in the AUL Complex, which is now sold out and was set up due to a huge demand.

Following marketing on social media and through clubs and FAI Emerging Talent Programmes, the course filled up quickly with participants made up of players, students, teachers, and coaches.

“The female Kickstart Level 1 coaching course in the AUL is a small objective in the grander establishment of long-term goals for the women’s game,” said Boyle.

“Female only coaching courses and a mentoring support network for these coaches are essential to attracting and maintaining the female football coaches who are enthusiastic, passionate, and energetic about coach education and developing the women’s game.”

The FAI have made significant efforts to improve the standard of female coaching in recent years with a record number of female coaches enlisting for coach education courses, including Republic of Ireland Women’s Senior manager Sue Ronan and UCD Waves manager Eileen Gleeson who are on the current UEFA FAI Pro Licence course.

Boyle hopes that more aspiring coaches will get involved and this first female only Kickstart 1 course may help in that regard as it represents a new approach by the FAI to cater for female coaches.

The plan is to follow this course up with a female only Kickstart 2 coaching course as the demand for more courses specifically aimed at female coaches continues to grow.
