Kendall Fletcher Departs Seattle Reign FC
After three seasons with Seattle Reign FC, defender Kendall Fletcher has announced her departure from Seattle Reign FC and the National Women’s Soccer League to begin a three-year program to obtain an Advanced Diploma in Ministry from the Hillsong International Leadership College in Sydney, Australia.
Fletcher is currently on loan with the Western Sydney Wanderers of the Australian W-League, and will finish out the season with the club.
“This was an extremely difficult decision for me to make,” said Fletcher. “If I’m honest, there is a part of me that is surprised I had the courage to make this decision. I have never enjoyed myself more in a soccer environment than I have with the Reign. I can honestly say the last three years playing for this club have been the most enjoyable years of my career.”
Fletcher played in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) from 2009 to 2011, suiting up for three different teams: the Los Angeles Sol, Saint Louis Athletica, and Sky Blue FC. When the WPS folded, Fletcher went abroad to play for Vittsjö in the Swedish Damallsvenskan from 2012 to 2013. The defender then decided to return to the U.S., joining Reign FC for their historic 2014 NWSL season.
All-time, Fletcher appeared in 66 matches for Seattle, starting 65. She tallied three assists and five goals during her three seasons, and is known for her patented Fletcher Flip goal celebration. Fletcher was named to the 2014 NWSL Best XI, and the 2015 NWSL Second XI.
“Fletch is one of the most competitive, smartest defenders I have ever worked with,” said Seattle Reign FC head coach and general manager Laura Harvey. “Her attitude towards being the best player she can be was unmatched. Her influence on our team was exceptional and she will be truly missed.”
