I think that ALL the best European players – with some exceptions, of course – are professional or semi-professionals now. In France, Lyon’s and Paris’ players are all professionals. I suppose that Frankfurt’s players are too, aren’t they ? Some at Potsdam and Wolfsburg must be. And if I’m not mistaken, in England and Sweden it is also a mix between pros and amateurs, with semi-pros.

I’m not sure that so many European players would go to the USA just for money but maybe more to try something completely different. In Usa, it’s not Women’s Football, it’s Women’s Soccer and it’s not only a simple difference of vocabulary. It’s another culture. Much more recent than in Europe where Women’s Football is rooted deep into a ground more than a century old. It’s much more about “show”, “entertainment” in Usa, I think. So, it can be interesting to see it during one year as an experience of life. At the same time, take someone like Elise Bussaglia for instance. She moved from amateur PSG (who turned to professionalism this year) to professional Lyon. But she clearly declared that after her carreer’s end, she will go back with great pleasue to her former job, that is teaching children. I think that many top European players play for fun, not for money or for “making a career”. And the “fun” in Europe (just the pleasure to play) is maybe different from the US’ fun which includes a highly mediatization. Hope Solo or Alex Morgan – in two different ways and with two very different caracters certainly – could be seen as the perfect example of it. It’s just what I feel, I could be completely wrong of course !
