Germany and France qualify for Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Germany and France have secured their place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, with a little help from England!

England’s 2-1 comeback win over Norway in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 Round of 16 match means that Germany and France are now guaranteed their place in the top three European teams at the World so therefore qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

This is a huge achievement for France and Germany, especially as Germany missed out on the London 2012 Olympics following their early exit in Germany 2011.

Despite the Olympic celebrations for France and Germany, it is certain that only one of these teams will have a chance to advance from the quarter-finals and continue their campaign to become world champions as they face each other on Friday.

Netherlands are the last remaining European side who have a chance to make it to the quarter-finals, they play the current World Champions Japan tonight. View all the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 fixtures.

England are unable to qualify for the Olympics as an individual football association.
