Germany’s national goalkeeper Nadine Angerer will miss the qualifier matches against Spain and Switzerland and also the rest of 1. FFC Frankfurt’s season after a setback with her knee injury.
Nadine has been out for a few weeks and was hoping to return for Germany in Saturday’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2013 visit of Spain. However now a setback means that she underwent keyhole surgery on Friday where cartilage damage was diagnosed, meaning a three-month absence. This news will hit Frankfurt hard as they take on Arsenal LFC in the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals on 15 and 21 April.
Desirée Schumann, who took Nadine spot in Frankfurt’s 3 – 1 aggregate quarter-final elimination of Swedish side FC Malmö, has also been called up to the Germany squad, although Almuth Schult is due to start the match against Spain in Thursday’s Group 2 trip to Switzerland.
