JFA announced that the following players will retire from the competition.

DF Rumi Utsugi (Seattle Reign) -Because of injury
DF Nana Ichise (My Navi Vegalta Sendai Ladies) – Because of injury
MF Hikaru Naomoto (SC Freiburg) – Health reasons

In their place the following players have been called.

    DF Mayo Doko (Beleza)
    MF Hina Sugita (INAC Kobe)

It is the first time both players have been called to the senior national team. Sugita is the 2014 U17 FIFA World Cup and 2016 U20 FIFA World Cup Golden boot winner.

Thanks for the update @josue, much appreciated. I will update the Japan squad list.

It’s a shame for these players to miss out due to injury and health reasons, but a great opportunity for the players called-up!

Well at least it will be a very young team. 2 world cup winners and 2 London medallists is all that is left from the old team. Can this defense stop the likes of Rapinoe, Marta? Don’t think so. I guess they need the experience for next year’s WC.

Wow, that is a very young team. Yeah it is going to be a huge test for them facing those opponents but a perfect opportunity to gain experience and for lessons to be learned.
