Hedvig Lindahl earns 144th Cap to beat Swedish goalkeeper’s record – passes Thomas Ravelli

Another historic day in women’s football as Hedvig Lindahl earns her 144th Cap which is a Swedish goalkeeper record.

Hedvig Lindahl won her 144th cap today being named in the starting line-up of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying match against Hungary.

Sweden were due to play Denmark in a World Cup qualifier last week, but the game was cancelled due to a conflict between the Danish players and the DBU.

Lindahl is one of the Swedish players who have publicly expressed their willingness to get the Sweden-Denmark match played, rather than Denmark facing a penalty from FIFA.

Lindahl made her debut for the senior Swedish women’s national team on 25 January 2002 for an international friendly match against England.

Considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world today for both club, Chelsea Ladies, and country – many thought Lindahl was unfairly overlooked for FIFA BEST player award in 2016, when her outstanding performance at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games played a key role to earn her country a silver medal.

Hedvig overtakes Thomas Ravelli who was the previous record holder.
