The Australian Football Federation have announced Hesterine de Reus as the new head coach of the Westfield Matildas.
Hesterine de Reus is currently the manager of the Netherlands women’s team, PSV/FC Eindhoven who are competing in the BeNe League (Orange). De Reus is set to leave her position to take up the new role with the Australian international women’s team in the new year.
De Reus is a former Netherlands Women’s National team player, earning 43 caps from 1983-1993 before beginning her coaching career at top level women’s football.
Hesterine de Reus is the successor to former head coach Tom Sermanni who has recently taken the role as the USA Women’s National Team head coach.
De Reus commented on the Australian Football Federation website:
“I had the opportunity to watch some of the Westfield Matildas matches at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany and I very much enjoyed their style of football, we have some very ambitious plans for the team over the coming years and with the support of FFA and the AIS I am confident that we can perform on the international stage to the level that we aspire to.”
