Western New York Flash forward Michelle Heyman Voted NWSL Player of the Week
Western New York Flash forward Michelle Heyman was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 14 of the 2015 NWSL season.
Heyman, 27, scored her first goal in her first appearance with the Flash, assisting Western New York to a 3-3 draw at home against Sky Blue FC on Sunday afternoon at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.
The Shellharbour, Australia native scored in the 50th minute of the match, with a ball from teammate Samantha Mewis which landed right at the feet of Heyman, who blasted it past Sky Blue goalkeeper Brittany Cameron, giving the Flash a 3-1 lead over Sky Blue FC.
The Australian international is the fifth Western New York Flash player to be named NWSL Player of the Week. The honor was given to Abby Wambach during Week 5 and 9 and Carli Lloyd during Week 12 of the 2013 NWSL season. During the 2014 NWSL season, Vicky Losada received the honor in Week 1, Samantha Kerr during Week 9 and Carli Lloyd during Week 12.
Western New York Flash will return to action on Saturday, July 25 at 7:00 p.m. ET against the Houston Dash at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.
