Steph Houghton, Fara Williams and Jacqui Oatley among those recognised in New Year Honours.
Women’s football is recognised in the New Year honours list as England captain Steph Houghton and her team-mate Fara Williams are awarded an MBE.
The first female commentator to appear on the iconic BBC’s Match of the Day football programme, Jacqui Oatley has also been awarded an MBE. Oatley’s commentating career continues to grow from strength to strength and she is also a director of Women In Football, which works to support women involved in the sport.
Steph Houghton and Fara Williams were key players in England’s bronze medal win at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada last summer. Houghton plays club level football for Man City Women and is a strong centre-back for both club and country. Steph first made the headlines after Team GB’s inspiring performance at the London 2012 Olympics.
Fara Williams’ award is in part for her services to charity. The Liverpool Ladies midfielder serves as a coach and patron for the Homeless FA.
