So, the four of you that read Weekly Wrap and KitG have been gnashing your teeth, wondering what my lazy self has done with the articles.

This is fair.

Truth being, I had Weekly Wrap up and ready for the most part Sunday evening.

However, I think it is wise to explain my location in respect to Missouri and the United States.

I live in Springfield, Missouri. It is in the Southwest corner of the state of Missouri. It is 3 hours south of Kansas City, Ks/Mo [Sporting KC], and 3 hours southwest of St. Louis, Mo [Former St. Louis Athletica/A.C. St. Louis]. We have roughly 210,000 people here. Our closest city is a city of 50,000 people called Joplin, Missouri.

At 6:00pm CST Sunday evening Joplin was in the direct path of an absolutely devestating tornado. It was a mile wide and traveled six miles through the center of the city.

Everything is gone.

The high school that I had an interview in, in November.

It’s gone.

The Chik-Fil-A I ate at with my team after a soccer game in 2009.

It’s gone.

I have lost a Subway store in Joplin, along with two employees, and two other employees who lost everything.

Total so far we have lost a total of 117 lives [making it the deadliest tornado in US History], and recovery is just now getting underway.

I had a customer explain to me that she lost her grandmother, aunt, and mother in Joplin on Sunday.

Part of me feels extremely guilty for not getting the weekly articles up in a timely matter, but the other part of me has to realize that in spectrum of life there are just far more important things to work on at the moment.

To WSU I am sorry.

To the fans I am sorry.

At the moment though I have to switch hats for the week and go from soccer nut to humanitarian. I will be back with WW and KitG’s, but for the moment, I ask for patience and prayers.

Thanks ya’ll for the kind thoughts!

Update 5/25/2011: Been informed that I will be traveling to Joplin, Saturday with over 800 bottles of water/Powerade from my store here in Springfield to the mall in Joplin [one of two main shelters opened in the area]. This will be the sixth natural disaster that I’ll be assisting with, my first one since spending weeks in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The next weekend my crew from New Orleans will be gathering together as a large crew and will be heading into Joplin for more recovery work. At the moment 125 people are dead and with 232 still missing. Still much to do, but at least the area cities [like Springfield] are in recovery mode and donating massive amounts of goods directly to Joplin. Rumor has it that I’ll be carrying 500 bread buns as well on Saturday for lunch meat sandwiches.

    More to come…

Hi Shawn, I am so sorry to hear this devastating news! Please know that I (and am sure everyone) is thinking of you and wishing you hope and prayers. Please do not at all even think about WSU articles at this time (and definitely do not feel guilty!) Take care, you, your family, friends and everyone effected by this natural disaster are in our thoughts xx
