Bad news for Germany women’s national team as they will now have to play the two International friendly matches against USA without their key striker Célia Okoyino da Mbabi.
Célia Okoyino da Mbabi suffered a torn muscle injury to her right thigh during a training session in Chicago yesterday, (17th Oct 2012).
The German team’s doctor advised that Mbabi must rest for about two weeks in order for her to recover. Mbabi will remain with the team in the US and will be supervised by the medical department.
This injury news follows previous setbacks as Verena Faißt suffered a lateral ligament strain on her right ankle and Lena Lotzen is struggling with a calf muscle strain, although involvement in the first match against USA may not be compromised.
The first of two international friendlies, USA v Germany will take place on Saturday 20th October at 17:30 CT. More details of this ‘Fan Tribute Tour’ match here.
We wish Célia a speedy recovery. Thank you to WSU’s Gromit for bringing this story to our attention.
