Both Urawa and Yunogo rolled out their best squad for this tournament (except, of course, we miss Naomoto for the Reds!!) But I have a question because I have very poor knowledge of Brazilian and English leagues. Here is the starting line-ups of Sao Jose and Arsenal. Are these their best squads, or some essential players are missing?

    [Sao Jose]
    GK: Andreia
    DF: Poliana, Bage, Bruna, Leticia
    MF: Francielle, Formiga, Rosana
    FW: Giovania, Andressa, Debinha

    [Arsenal]
    GK: Siobhan Chamberlain
DF: Alex Scott, Emma Mitchell, Casey Stoney, Niamh Fahey
MF: Yael Averbuch, Jordan Nobbs, Lianne Sanderson,
FW: Shinobu Ohno, Danielle Carter, Leah Williamson

Well, Sao Jose’s names look just gorgeous, almost their national team minus Marta and Christiane.

Thank you Ken for the updates

Thank you for the updates Ken.

Arsenal normally play with goalkeeper Emma Byrne who is also the Republic of Ireland National team goalkeeper. That is the only key player I can see missing. They have introduced a couple of new players for the tournament, Yael Averbuch is on loan to Arsenal just for the Japan tour and Lianne Sanderson has only just resigned for Arsenal… She will continue to play for them after the tour.

Sao Jose do look an impressive squad, Izzy should be able to tell us if it is their normal starting line-ups.

You are right Ken. São José looks like Brazil WNT. For this reason I told Gina before brazilian friendly against France that Brazil was playing without 10 of 11 current line up players ….only Marta was there.
Andreia, Poliana, Bruna, Formiga, Rosana, Andressa and Debinha are current line up players of Brazil WNT and didn’t play against France because the Nestle Cup.
Fabiana, Tayla, Cristiane have also missed the friendly due to injuries.
So, this team of São José represents more Brazil WNT than that team which played against France.

Andréia (gk) has only just resigned for São José, Rosana and Debinha are on loan to São José just for the Japan tour…they current play in Norway (Avaldsnes).

I see. Perhaps Yunogo Belle could have used their own loans. Why not Iwashimizu and Hara (both NTV)? 😀 But I feel relieved as my Reds Ladies should not feel too humiliated after having a close match against a formidable opponent.

Thank you Ken, I have updated above.

Good attendances for these opening games, I am a little surprised about the Yunogo Belle-Melbourne result.

What surprised (and pleased) me most is that Urawa Reds contained the Jiangsu’s right-winger, Xu Yanlu, perfectly. Xu Yanlu we saw at AFC Cup in May was the China’s most dangerous attacker against whom Japan’s national team was helpless. Today’s game gives me one more reason to wish to see Urawa Reds Ladies vs. Nadeshiko Japan!!

Hi Ken, I tried translate the website but it didn’t work. I clicked in”on air” but I didn’t understand anything and I was wondering if they will stream the matches in the official website. Do you know if the stream will be in their official site or if a channel TV will do it? Thanks

    • Ken Suzuki 4 years ago

      Izzy,

The matches of this tournament are fully covered by a TV station but, to my knowledge, only for broadcasting within Japan. And if there will be any net streaming then I don’t know.

Sorry for being unable to help.

The last team to compete in this tournament is announced. It is

    Jiangsu Huatai

based in Jiangsu, China. I checked with the website of Chinese women’s league.

    http://www.fa.org.cn/wf/index.html

I may be wrong as I don’t read Chinese but it looks this team is the sixth among 16 of their league. I tried to find out if some players we saw at AFC Cup and Asian Games play for this club. I am unsuccessful so far.

So, the opening match of the tournament is

Urawa Reds Ladies vs. Jiangsu Huatai

The kick-off is November 30, 11am, Japan Time.

Thank you Ken. I have updated the fixtures above.
I am excited to see who wins the tournament, I saw today that Arsenal Ladies are making their way to Japan.

JFA announced today that they have a new sponsor in place of the departing Mobcast. As the result this tournament is named

    Nestlé CUP

    this year. Beverage replaces game….

Perhaps we should stick to “IWCC” to refer to this tournament whichever company sponsors it in order to avoid confusion in future.

  12. Ken Suzuki 4 years ago

Uh oh, …. please keep in mind the Match 1 is competed by “runner-up” only in the case Yunogo Belle who already won the First Stage (called “Regular Series”) also wins the Second Stage (called “Exciting Series.”) The basic idea is that the two winners (first and second stages) compete in IWCC, but a same team can not fill in two berths. I personally hope my Urawa Reds Ladies wins the second stage (no more crazy officiating please !!!) and compete in this international tournament.
