Republic of Ireland 0-2 Germany

Republic of Ireland Women’s Under-17s defeated by Germany in Elite Round

The Republic of Ireland Women’s Under-17s lost their final game of the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship Elite Round 2-0 to Germany.

Colin Bell’s side needed to win the game to have any chance of qualifying for the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship, but Germany proved too much for Ireland.

Goals from Emilie Bernhardt and a penalty from captain Ivana Fuso guaranteed Germany’s spot in this summer’s Finals.

Speaking after the game, Head Coach Colin Bell said he was proud of the performance put in by the team, despite conceding two goals.

“We reduced Germany to a penalty and a free-kick. Other than that they didn’t have once clear chance from open play.

“There were positives to take from all three games, but plenty to learn too. The girls will take the experience with them into next season”

Iceland’s 3-1 win over Azerbaijan in Group 7’s other match, means Ireland finished in third place.
