Colin Bell’s Republic of Ireland WU17 side ready to test European champions
The team face Germany on Wednesday in the final game of the Elite Round
The Republic of Ireland Women’s Under-17s are continuing preparations for their final game of the Elite Round against Germany, on Wednesday morning.
Colin Bell’s side know they must defeat the reigning European Champions if they are to qualify for the UEFA European Women’s Under-17 Championship in Lithuania later this summer.
Speaking ahead of the game, Bell said preparations are going well in Greifswald.
“We had a training session this morning, and worked on some final tactics, and we will prepare this afternoon to pinpoint some of Germany’s weaknesses.
“They are the European champions of this age group. You’re not going to be playing against better teams at this level.”
Bell has seen Wednesday’s opponents defeat Azerbaijan and Iceland in their opening two games and has been impressed with what he has seen.
“They’re a top team. We know what we’re up against. It’s up to us to find a way of stifling Germany’s strengths.”
Despite playing two games in the past six days, Bell expects to have a full squad to choose from ahead of the final Elite Round match.
