Janine Beckie extends contract at Manchester City

Manchester City have announced that Canadian international Janine Beckie has extended her contract at the club until 2022.

Beckie who has made 46 appearances for City has shown her versatility on many occasions as she’s played on both wings and has also filled in at right-back in the absence of Aoife Mannion who suffered a long-term injury.

Beckie helped her side win a domestic cup double in her first season as City picked up the Continental Cup after a penalty shootout victory over Arsenal and the FA Cup following a 3-0 win over West Ham United.

She has scored 13 times during her spell at the club so far and also helped Canada reach the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup in France before losing 1-0 to Sweden.

Beckie follows Steph Houghton, Caroline Weir, Lauren Hemp, Kiera Walsh and Jess Park in committing her future to the club.

Speaking to the club website on her new contact the the 25 year old said

” “I am absolutely delighted to be extending my time here at City.

“The last two years have been more than I could have imagined and after the progress and memories I have made so far, there was no doubt when it came to making the decision to re-sign.”

City’s head of women’s football, Gavin Makel, added: “I am delighted that Janine has committed her future to the club.

“She represents everything that we are about – a player who has the desire to win and improve, whilst always putting the team’s needs above her own.”

There’s no doubt that Janine will continue to get better and better as she has done over the last couple of years.
