Julie Ann Russell named the Bus Éireann WNL Player of the Year
Julie Ann Russell was today named the Bus Éireann Women’s National League Player of the Year at an awards presentation at Aviva Stadium.
The Peamount United and Republic of Ireland international winger was delighted with the honour after an impressive campaign for the Dublin outfit.
“It’s a great honour to win this award. The players who were nominated were all top class so to be chosen as the Player of the Year is a great personal achievement,” said Russell.
“Ultimately it’s nice to be recognised as an individual but as a team we missed out on the title so we’re still disappointed about that.
“The focus now is on the international game against Russia next week. We showed what we could do against Germany and have to try build on that against Russia.”
The Irish meet Russia at Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday, May 7.
Meanwhile Raheny United forward Katie McCabe was named as the Bus Éireann Women’s National League Young Player of the Year, Peamount United’s Stephanie Roche was awarded the Bus Éireann Women’s National League top scorer and the inaugural Bus Éireann Women’s National League Hall of Fame recipient was DLR Waves midfielder Sylvia Gee.
