FC Kansas City signs rookie Alexa Newfield
FC Kansas City announced yesterday the signing of forward Alexa Newfield, who was the No. 28 pick of the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League College Draft. Newfield is the second player to sign this week from her draft class and third overall for the Blues.
Newfield and teammate Katie Bowen both attended the University of North Carolina. Newfield played 19 games with 18 starts for 993 minutes for the Tarheels in 2015. She scored a team-best 11 goals with three assists.
“After battling some injuries in college, Lex came to camp fully fit and she has performed very well since day 1,” general manager Huw Williams said. ” We feel that a healthy Alexa has the potential to make an immediate impact in this league”
Newfield scored one goal in the team’s first four exhibition games.
