Katie McCabe named Continental Tyres WNL Player of the Month
RAHENY United striker Katie McCabe has been named Continental Tyres Women’s National League Player of the Month for September.
The talented Ireland U19 cap had a prolific month with hat-tricks against Wexford Youths and UCD Waves and a double against Galway WFC in the FAI Conintental Tyres Women’s Senior Cup quarter-final to make it eight goals in three games.
McCabe, 19, was delighted with the accolade and is relishing her time with the Pandas – who beat Castlebar Celtic after extra-time on Saturday to clinch their place in the FAI Conintental Tyres Women’s Senior Cup at Aviva Stadium on November 2.
“I don’t usually win awards so I’m really delighted to win player of the month for September,” said the Tallaght native.
“Things went very well for the team last month and I managed to get a few goals so I was very pleased with my form.
“The season has gone very well for us so far. We have the cup final to look forward to and before that we have two massive games in the UEFA Women’s Champions League against Bristol Academy to play.
“We were delighted to get out of our group in the UEFA competition so now we are in the knock-out stage and we’re hoping to do well in the first leg on Thursday.”
McCabe and her Raheny United colleagues will be looking to get off to a winning start in the first leg of that UEFA tie against the English side Bristol Academy at Richmond Park on Thursday evening (7.30pm).
Casey McQuillan’s side had a 100 per cent record in their qualifying group and will be looking for McCabe to take her domestic form onto the European stage.
