KeWPL: Goals galore as league entered second round
The Kenyan Women Premier League (KeWPL) entered the second round over the weekend with a total of 19 goals scored.
At the Thika Municipal Stadium National Women Football Team, Harambee Starlets captain Mary Kinuthia was the star of the day as she scored five goals to lead her side to a 9-0 rout over newcomers GaspoYouth. Lucy Mukhwana grabbed a brace while Christine Nafula and Caroline Kiget ensured the champions go home with the maximum points.
In another match at Mbaraki Stadium, Spedag FC took the day after mauling Mombasa Olympics 5-2 to take the bragging rights for the Coastal with Harambee Starlets winger Esse Akida scoring a hat trick with Wendy Achieng’ and Sharon Bushenei finding the back of the net once for the Christine Nanjala-coached side while Mwanahalima Adam and Lilian Veronica were on target for Olympics.
Mumias-based Wadadia posted their maiden win of the season with a 4-0 humiliating against Eldoret Falcons who picked their league opener last weekend against Baringo County Starlets.
In that match, Benta Omita scored a brace with Sharon Aidi and Sharon Narotso on the mark.
At Mumias Complex Stadium, newcomers Vihiga Queens trashed Vihiga Leeds 6-0 with Mercy Anyango and Phoebe Owiti grabbing a brace each while Enez Mango and Lilian Adera finding the net once each.
Malonders FC defeated Socer Queens 3-1 at Camp Toyoyo Grounds with Nigerian import Vivian Ebere grabbing a brace and Pauline Owino on target for Makolanders while Rebecca Akinyi scored a consolation for Soccer Queens.
