England and Australia last faced each other back in 2015 when they met on two occasions. The first was during the 2015 Cyprus Cup, the Lionesses won 3-0 against the Matildas in the group stage thanks to a Jodie Taylor hat-trick. England went on to win the tournament, beating Canada 1-0 in the final with Lianne Sanderson netting the winning goal. The most recent time was in October 2015 at the CFA International Women’s Football Tournament hosted in China, in which England earned a 1-0 victory over Australia.

Both England and Australia are preparing for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be hosted in France next summer.

Australia travel to Fulham just days after their international friendly match with the World Cup hosts France on Friday 5 October in Saint-Étienne.

The Matildas were defeated 2-0 by France with both goals scored in the second half by Eugénie Le Sommer.

The Lionesses played Brazil on Saturday 6 October at Notts County’s Meadow Lane ground where they earned a 1-0 win thanks to an early goal from Fran Kirby.

After the friendly match against England, Australia’s World Cup preparations continue with games against Chile scheduled for November.
