Pia Sundhage announced that Lotta Schelin and Caroline Seger would be the new Swedish women’s national football team captains.

Sundhage made the announcement at a press conference on Friday saying “Now that we are new, we do not just talk change but also make changes… Caroline and Lotta complement each other well and they will have shared leadership…”

Caroline Seger has experience as the national team coach, she previously was the Swedish national team captain for 4 years. Seger has also captained at club level.

For Lotta Schelin, this will be her first time as the national team captain, although she has previously captained club side Kopparberg / Göteborg.

Who will wear the captains armband on match days will be decided between the pair, who know each others strengths and weaknesses well.

The first test for the newly appointed captains will be against Switzerland in an international friendly this Tuesday 23rd October 2012.

I love this notes @Gromit – It is very interesting to hear your opinion on the individual players. I can’t argue that Ogimi was your highest rated player.
