Manchester City sign Scotland defender Jennifer Beattie.
Manchester City have announced the signing of Scottish international Jennifer Beattie from French side Montpellier.
Beattie will join the club on 3 January 2015.
Beattie commented on the official Man City website that she was eager to add to her trophy collection and feels she can do so with last season’s Continental Cup champions. “Once you’ve had that taste of success, you want it more and more,” she stated. “City have their targets set on winning trophies and that’s the kind of club I want to be at. I’m very excited. The girls did great last year, it’s a really exciting time and I’m really happy to be a part of it. The facilities at the club are just unbelievable and it’s a really good time to try and make your mark on a club. I’m ready for a new challenge and I’m looking forward to returning to the Women’s Super League. I’ve missed it.I know some of the girls already and I played alongside Steph Houghton at Arsenal. I know her pretty well and the others at City I’ve already met are a great bunch so I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the team and staff.”
Beattie is probably most known in England from her time at Arsenal where she enjoyed her most successful period to date, securing seven major honours. Jen also has over 80 appearances for the Scottish Women’s national team.
Man City manager Nick Cushing told the official website: “We are delighted to add Jennifer to our squad for the 2015 season. We have done a lot of reviewing of the last season and we have highlighted areas we needed to improve as a team. Jennifer was a key target for us, when considering how we continue to evolve this team. Her previous experience at club and international level is exceptional and we all look forward to working with Jen.”
