Manchester City sign striker Sarah Wiltshire.
Manchester City have announced their fourth signing of the off-season, Sarah Wiltshire.
Wiltshire joins Manchester City from FA Women’s Super League 2 side Yeovil, where she finished the 2014 season as their top goalscorer, netting 11 goals in 16 games.
The youngster commented on the official Man City website about her new challenge: “I’m really happy to be here, I really enjoyed my time with Yeovil but it’s always been my dream to play at the highest level and to play for such a great club. It was a big shock when I found out City were interested in me. I didn’t know what I was going to do next season anyway and then they came in and I couldn’t turn them down. There’s no better place to come and play football every day. The facilities here are amazing. It’s overwhelming.”
Sarah is a prolific striker but has the ability to play as an attacking midfielder which makes her a versatile player.
Wiltshire represents Wales Women’s National Team and has already made 31 appearances and scored eight times for the senior team.
Manchester City manager Nick Cushing revealed that it was during an international game that he spotted the youngster’s potential.
Cushing admitted on the Man City official website: “Sarah is a player I don’t think anyone expected us to sign, she’s come from the FA WSL 2 and first came to our attention when we went to watch the Wales versus England game in Cardiff. What we saw was somebody that – although England won that game comfortably – was playing for Wales and showed a real effort and enthusiasm. That’s everything we want in our players. Mentally, we want them to work hard regardless of the score and bring a real effort and application to the game they are in. We saw that in her and when we watched clips of her, realised she is a really talented footballer. We feel we can improve her and take her to the next level, while she will add some real value to the squad. She scored a lot of goals last year for Yeovil so we’re really excited about her. To get her playing in the FA WSL 1 shows she’s been rewarded for her effort and quality.”
