Match preview: Mgarr United vs Hibernians
The leaders of the BOV Women’s League, Hibernians, will commence their final round of the Championship Pool with the match of the week against Mgarr United.
After their 1-1 draw against their rivals, Birkirkara, Hibernians will be more than determined to return to winning ways to keep their distance from their rivals ahead of the international break. On the other hand, after their 4-2 loss against their direct rivals for the 3rd place, Raiders Luxol, Mgarr hope that they will be the team which won against Birkirkara and not the team who conceded 6 against the same Hibernians in their second encounter of the league. The leaders won both encounters this season, the first match by just one goal to nil and in the following fixture, they showed their superiority by winning 6-2, despite Mgarr having reduced the score to 3-2 at a certain point of the match.
This final fixture between them though, is a decisive one for both teams. Hibernians cannot afford to lose points from now on to keep their 3 point advantage over Birkirkara and to avoid any extra pressure on them while for Mgarr, this fixture is important since they are challenging for the 3rd place with Raiders Luxol, and despite the 3rd place does not mean anything, it would be a great achievement for them and a motivational boost in order to make that leap of quality which would help them to challenge alongside Birkirkara and Hibernians for the ultimate prize.
Sports journalist from Malta with a great passion towards women’s football. My interest towards women’s football commenced during the 2007 FIFA World Cup and from then on I started to catch up with all international tournaments that used to be broadcasted. My involvement in local women’s football started few years ago by attending all national team’s matches and sometimes used to attend some of the domestic league’s matches. I hope that my articles with WSU help our local league to build an important reputation among other nations and expose our girls in this movement.
