The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially awarded the rights to host the 2014 African Women’s Championship to the Namibian Football Association (NFA).
Africa’s football governing body took the decision at its Executive Committee session in Cairo last week.
“We certainly have the infrastructure, stability and manpower to host an event of this magnitude, coupled with the support of the government and political will that will not leave a stone unturned in making sure the event is well organized. Itís our turn to deliver a topnotch tournament in the Land of the Brave because this gesture is a crystal-clear demonstration that CAF has faith and confidence in the leadership of the NFA,” said Muinjo.
Muinjo added that he is thrilled by the prospect of hosting such a big event which is surely going to be the biggest football event on Namibian soil after the Cosafa U-17 in 2007, which was a huge success.
Muinjo added that the benefits of organizing such a big event are immense:
The Namibian women’s team and women’s football organization will be exposed, which is good for future women’s sustainable development triggering interest in the sport by young girls.
