Newcastle United Women’s Football Club welcomes Cheadle Heath Nomads Ladies Football Club to Coach Lane on Sunday in the Northern Combination Women’s League.

Newcastle go into this game following another win last Sunday at Huddersfield where the NUWFC travelling supporters saw Club Captain Stacy Crooks score another 4 goals.

Stacy is in great form and is looking forward to continuing that on Sunday and said ‘I’m loving football at the minute, I’ve never played in a team like this before, it’s like a little family and all we do is laugh and smile on and off the pitch. I have scored 22 goals so far this season but that wouldn’t be possible if my other team mates didn’t pass me the ball. I might have stuck the ball in the net 22 times but each of those goals is a team goal and this shows when we all celebrate together !

This Sunday is the First Teams last home game before the Christmas break and comes a few days after their squad Christmas party on Friday night at the clubs new adopted home, Cowgate Sports Club, so spirits will be high.

This has been a busy week for the NUWFC Squad on Tuesday five members joined Lord Coe at St James Park to promote the sale of the Olympic Football tickets. Regardless of the distractions during the week Sarah Wilson NUWFC First Team Captain will make sure that once the referee blows his whistle the team are focused on the game and pre Christmas celebrations are put on hold. Sarah said about Sundays game ‘This Sunday is no different to any other Sunday. We need to keep up the excellent work and positive attitudes to ensure we get the win. It’s a chance for us to get revenge back on Cheadle, last time we only came away with a point. They are a tough team to break down, like us they graft hard for each other and they fight. Were sitting at the top end of the table now and it’s ours to loose, every point is vital’.

Despite their current good form NUWFC First Team Manager Michael Havelock is keeping the squad focused in training session and is pleased with the hard work and terrific team spirit in the camp. Michael said “home at last! Is the cry from the players and management team. After several successful away trips, we are glad to be back at home for this coming Sunday. The girls are especially looking forward to this game as they feel there is some unfinished business from the game at Cheadle. Nothing but a win will satisfy our hungry and hard working side. It will be a tough test but the management team have every faith in each and every one of the players to step up and perform to the level that we have come to expect.”

Newcastle United Women’s Football Club Reserves makes the long journey to Leicester City Women’s Football Club in the FA Women’s Premier League Reserves Mid / North Division Two, this fixture will be played at Aylestone Park FC. Newcastle played Leicester earlier in the season at University of Northumbria Coach Lane and Leicester left with all three points.

There have been a number of changes in the Reserves lately including a new management team of Gary Appleton and Adam Shaw and there have also been a few additions to the squad. Both Gary and Adam were pleased with the second half performance last week against Stoke and are hoping the team will continue that at Leicester and with the extra work the team have done in training this week it should definitely show on the pitch on Sunday.

Reserve Team Manager Gary Appleton said ‘Sundays reserve fixture see us making our longest journey of the season a 450 mile round trip to Leicester City. Hopefully the injuries to the players who missed out last Sunday have cleared up and allow us the chance to have a full squad to choose from. The girls should be looking forward to the game having played so well against Stoke City and try and take there confident display into Sundays game. We are also working hard in training with all the girls promising to give it there all in Tuesday and Thursday’s training sessions’.
