NUWFC First and Reserve Teams in League and Cup Action this Sunday

NUWFC First Team are at home at Coach Lane while the Reserve Team travel to Doncaster.

Newcastle United Women’s Football Club welcomes top of the league Sheffield FC Ladies to Coach Lane on Sunday in the FA Women’s Premier League.  Newcastle were disappointed by last Sunday defeat to Nottingham Forest in the FA Premier League Cup but are keen to put last weeks performance behind them and get back on the pitch and into league action on Sunday.

NUWFC First Team Captain Sarah Wilson said ‘Back in league action this weekend against top of the table Sheffield. We feel this will be our toughest opponent yet. We’re ready to put our cup defeat behind us and start fresh on Sunday. We have some experienced characters within our squad to help do so. Like always we’re going to prepare well this week in training to ensure we don’t make the same mistakes again’

Following promotion back into the FA Women’s Premier league NUWFC focus this season was making sure that they not only stayed in this league but also to finish in the top half of the table.  So First Team Manager Michael Havelock and his coaching team will be making sure the players do everything they have to in training this week in order to ensure the mistakes made on Sunday are not repeated this week in what is going to be a tough game.

NUWFC First Team Manager Michael Havelock said ‘”NUWFC will welcome the return to league action this weekend in what will be a defining game for our season. Sheffield are a tough side with experienced players and will be a very difficult team for us to play. At this point in the season there are plenty of games left, but as the league is shaping up, this result could be pivotal for both sides. The girls will be looking to bounce back after a lack lustre second half display last week and take the game to Sheffield. This should definitely be a game to remember.”

NUWFC Reserve Team

The NUWFC Reserve Team are once again on the road as they head to Doncaster Rover Belles in the First Round of the FA Women’s Reserve League Cup

NUWFC Reserve Team Captain Amy Perch said ‘This week we take on Doncaster, another side with a reputation and history capable of daunting even the strongest of teams in our league.  We know that we will have our work cut out but on the back of an excellent whole team performance and result last week, we shall go in all guns blazing, playing only for three points.’

Doncaster Rover Belles are currently sitting top of the FA Women’s Premier League Reserves Mid/ North Div Two having won three out of three so far this season.  Gary and his team know that Sunday’s game will not only be a test of their footballing skills but also their team spirit against a well organised and determined team like the Belles.  Following on from a tremendous win and a well earned three points on Sunday the players are looking forward to Sunday’s game.

The Reserve Team has come along way in the last twelve months; the team spirit is the best it has been for years.  Not only does reserve Team Manager Gary Appleton have a full fit squad to choose from but it’s a squad of players who are not only proud to wear the black and white but also very proud to represent the club at this level.  The hard work by both players and management has shown what you can achieve when everyone works together.

Reserve Team Manager Gary Appleton said ‘This weekend we are off on our travels away to top of the league side Doncaster Belles which will be an understandably hard game.  But a game in which we cannot shy away from if we take all the performances from the past four weeks and apply the same hard work ,determination and team work we will give Doncaster a very hard competitive game and hopefully a good performance and result which all the girls work rate in training and games deserves.
