What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger !
It’s true – Newcastle United Women’s Football Club are living proof of that statement !

Following what can only be described as a terrible season on and off the pitch in 2010 – 2011 Newcastle United Women’s Football Club (NUWFC) were relegated out of the FA Women’s Premier League (Northern Division) into the Northern Women’s Combination League. (NWCL)

The club was devastated and the NUWFC Committee and Team Management arranged a meeting to discuss the clubs future. A decision was made to re-group and re-form and take the club back to where it belonged, playing in the FAWPL – at the first time of asking.

A number of players left the club and there were a number of changes to the Management and coaching team and the fight was on. The remaining players were joined in pre-season by a group of young, but very talented, players who were keen to help in the re-building of the squad and who too had sights on playing women’s football at the highest level possible.

Following the AGM on June 25th and confirmation and re-election of the Chairman and Committee the hard work started.

The first job was for NUWFC to defend their title they won in the Robson Fives 2010 Tournament and on a very sunny July 3rd the job was done and NUWFC were crowned Robson Fives 2011 champions. NUWFC ‘Blues’ win the Robson Fives 2011 Tournament

The squad then embarked on pre-season and on July 17 made the journey to Teesside to play Middlesbrough Ladies, who NUWFC would meet in the Northern Combination League. On a very wet and windy day and a convincing 4 – 0 win the new players showed just what our fans had to look forward to Torrential Rain, Thunder, Lightning and a Hat Trick

The squad had now been together for more than a month and had proved on the pitch they had what it takes to take the club on. So what about off the pitch July 22nd and the squad met at XS Superbowl Longbenton, one of NUWFC supporters and had a great squad night out, with a little bit of competition add, just for fun NUWFC Players in Team Bowl Off

August 3rd and it was time for NUWFC to do something for someone else and on a very wet day as guests of Forest Hall YPC, NUWFC joined the team from Spark FM to raise money for the Heal and Toe Charity It’s Today and It’s On…

This time it was a seven a-side match against the Sky Fanzone Commentators who were raising money for the Toon Ladies favourite charity, The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation’. October 16th, and NUWFC took a break from League Action to take part in the NFA Cup. Due to their relegation from the FAWPL NUWFC First Team were allowed to enter to NFA Sagicor Women’s Cup, so the club entered two teams and both teams secured their place in the next round Sagicor NFA Women’s Cup – Results and Match Reports

With both the first and reserve teams now firmly committed to league or cup action every the club reflected on just what it takes to play at this level not only in commitment to training but just how far they have to travel and how many hours they spend every week training the length and breadth of the county for just 90 mins of football. So just how far would you go?

November 29, and NUWFC squad members take time out to help promote the Olympics and get to meet one of the people responsible for the successful bid to bring the 2012 Olympics to Great Britain. Players ‘Lord it’ at St James Park…

i see, very interesting re: the ages the squad is quite young.

like the Nadeshiko Japan, Sasaki is starting to prepare the next generation to take over in time for the next big tournament (2015 World Cup in Canada). he’s filled his lineup with U-20 WC standouts where his youngest are at 18 and 19. this is not a problem of course but what i thought to be his problem is his lack of capable veterans who could lead the team with their experience. the oldest is Nahomi Kawasumi, 28, earned captaincy honors but was not even much of a regular starter before London 2012. i think it’s a mistake not having even Aya Miyama (aged 28) or even the great Homare Sawa (34) around. which looks to be something you are avoiding coach, and i’m glad for that. having some of the key vets around to anchor the team is always important, especially those who have known the team, been with the team for quite a while. at least leadership-wise, they can contribute lots, i believe.
