Northern Ireland to compete in Pinatar Cup
Northern Ireland Women’s national team will compete in the 2020 Pinatar Cup in March.
The matches in Spain will act as preparation for the crucial UEFA Women’s EURO 2021 qualifiers against Belarus and the Faroe Islands.
They will compete with Scotland, Ukraine and Iceland in the tournament.
Kenny Shiels side will meet Scotland who reached the World Cup in the summer before failing to qualify from the group stages after a dramatic clash with Argentina on Tuesday 10th March.
Scotland are frequent visitors to the Pinatar Arena and recorded a famous victory against Brazil at the venue during preparation for last year’s World Cup.
The Green and White Army last met Iceland in a European qualifying fixture in 2012 with Iceland running out 2-0 winners as they finished 2nd in the group.
Ukraine will also be using the tournament ahead of their crucial qualifying games as they take on Montenegro and Greece in April before facing Republic of Ireland in a huge clash in June.
Ukraine met Republic of Ireland in October with the Girls in Green winning 3-2 thanks to goals from Arsenal’s Katie McCabe, Brighton’s new signing Rianna Jarrett and an own goal from Lyubov Shmatko.
Northern Ireland will take on Ukraine on the 7th March with a 6pm kick off time.
