NWSL 2014 match previews on Women's Soccer United

The National Women’s Soccer League 2014 season continues this weekend with the Week 2 matches.

Week 1 saw the defending champions Portland Thorns begin their title defence with a 1-0 win against Houston Dash. The biggest win of week 1 came from Seattle Reign FC who beat Boston Breakers 3-0. Here is a reminder of all the NWSL 2014 Week 1 results.

Sky Blue FC v Portland Thorns FC

Saturday 19 April, 7 p.m. ET | Yurcak Field | Piscataway, N.J.

Portland Thorns FC will be hoping to make it two wins in a row when they travel to take on Sky Blue FC. Allie Long scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 opening-day victory for Portland over NWSL newcomers the Houston Dash.

Sky Blue FC comes into the game looking to build on the positives from their 1-1 draw with FC Kansas City in Week 1. Midfielder and 2013 standout Katy Freels earned SBFC a share of the points on the road when she seized on a failed clearance to thunder the ball past FCKC goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart in the 48th minute during Week 1.

Chicago Red Stars kick-off their 2014 season against Western New York Flash as part of a doubleheader with Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire at Toyota Park on Saturday. This is Chicago’s opening NWSL 2014 game, they will be looking to improve on a 2013 campaign that saw them finish 6th.

Western New York Flash won their opening match 3-1 against Washington Spirit. The Flash will be looking to make it two consecutive wins when they travel to Toyota Park.
