Defending champions New Zealand and Papua New Guinea have given themselves a head start in the OFC U-17 Women’s Championship with victories on the opening day at Centre Park in Auckland today.

 

Papua New Guinea raised the curtain on the tournament, the winner of which will qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Azerbaijan 2012, with a hard-fought 1-0 win over 10-player New Caledonia Georgina KAIKAS 18′ scoring the only goal of the game.

While the Young Football Ferns beat the Cook Islands 7-0, goals from Martine Puketapu 18′, Catherine Bott 22′, Emma Rolston 29′, Hannah Carlsen 33′ 75′ , Briar Palmer 67′ 71′.
