The OFC Executive Committee had to reschedule the tournament as there was uncertainty around the confirmation of participating teams.
The OFC U-20 Women’s Championship is Oceania’s qualifying event for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. As part of FIFA regulations the tournament will need to take place at least three months before the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup (18th August – 8th September in Japan).
Already confirmed teams for the OFC U-20 Women’s Championship include New Zealand and New Caledonia. There has also been two late entries received from Samoa and Papua New Guinea.
Delaying the tournament will allow Member Associations more time to prepare confirmation and a new proposal is to be announced by OFC around the end of January.
