Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce that Olivier Echouafni has been appointed head coach of the women’s professional side. The former France women’s national team coach has signed a two-year contract and is now tied to the club to 30 June 2020.

The 45-year-old former midfielder began his coaching career in 2013, with Amiens, before spells with FC Sochaux and Les Bleues, who he led to Euro 2017 in the Netherlands.Olivier Echouafni will be assisted by Bernard Mendy, the former Rouge et Bleu defender (2000-2008), who was on the bench for the club’s recent Coupe de France triumph over Olympique Lyonnais. Pre-season training will begin on 16 July, five days before the squad heads to the USA where the team will play in the inaugural women’s edition of the International Champions Cup on 21 and 29 July.

“I am very happy at the idea of joining Paris Saint-Germain, declared Olivier Echouafni after signing his contract. The women’s team has become an important player in French and European football. The future looks very bright with our return to the UEFA Women’s Champions League next season, coupled with our domestic ambitions. I cannot wait to start working with the squad that features a good mix of experience and youth, including some very promising talents. Together, and with lots of determination and hard work, our aim is to continue the growing process of the Women’s team.”

The arrival of Olivier Echouafni will create a new dynamic with our playing squad, explained Paris Saint-Germain Women’s team sporting director Bruno Cheyrou. Thanks to his long playing career, Olivier has a great understanding of top-flight football and his experience with the France national team will be a great advantage to meet the challenges that await our women’s team. In this coming season, that ends with France hosting the women’s World Cup, Olivier, his staff and all our players will be looking to continue proudly flying the Paris Saint-Germain colours.”
