Pia Sundhage is committed to fulfill contract to 2016
Swedish media have reported that Pia Sundhage will be completing her contract which sees her with her native country to 2016.
There were rumours and speculations that the popular coach would step down from her role following the tournament, Pia herself previously joked that she would be thrown out of Sweden if they went out early in the World Cup!
Sweden were knocked out of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 last night by Germany, suffering a 4-1 Round of 16 defeat. The early exit more than likely means that Sweden will not qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Sundhage revealed to Swedish media that she understood that the Football Association would like her to fulfill her contract until 2016 which she was pretty happy about.
Sweden will now undergo good analysis and a vigorous effort to change and improve and Pia Sundhage would like to be a part if it, either as the coach or in another role.
When asked if Pia would be open to staying another year to be a part of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017, Pia’s response was – No. 2016 applies. Then it is for someone to take over and reap the rewards in 2017.
