Portland Thorns FC opened their 2015 NWSL regular season campaign with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Boston Breakers in front of 13,386 fans at Providence Park. The Thorns opened the scoring in the 21st minute, when midfielder Sinead Farrelly calmly powered home a touch pass from Kat Williamson off of a Tobin Heath corner kick.
In the 31st minute, the Thorns added a second goal when midfielder Mana Shim swung the ball out wide to midfielder Kendall Johnson, whose cross back into the box found the onrushing Shim, who placed her shot low and in the corner.
The Breakers got on the board in the 63rd minute when Breakers forward Stephanie McCaffrey blasted a shot from just inside the 18-yard box past Thorns FC goalkeeper Michelle Betos.
The Thorns struck back in the 71st minute when Shim sent a looping pass to Allie Long at the top of the box. Long cut the ball back to her left foot and powered the shot past Breakers goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.
Then, just 45 seconds later, Long struck again, when Shim picked her out with a long diagonal pass, sending Long in alone on goal, where she cooly finished past Naeher with a low, right-footed effort.
