Netherlands WNT terminate contract of coach Roger Reijners
Netherlands women’s national football team have announced that the KNVB and coach Roger Reijners have today agreed to terminate the contract of the coach on 1 August.
Roger Reijners has held the position of the Netherlands women’s national team head coach since 1 November 2010.
During his leadership, Netherlands WNT qualified for their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Reijners’ contract was due to expire in mid-2016 and he let the KNVB know he would not renew. With the UEFA Women’s European Championship 2017 set to be hosted in Netherlands the KNVB want a new coach for more than a year to prepare and get the team ready for the European Championships.
Although Roger Reijners is said to be disappointed to not lead the team at the Rio 2016 Olympics, he understands the KNVB’s choice to look for another coach.
The current assistant coach, Sarina Wiegman will fulfil the tasks of Reijners until the new coach of Netherlands is appointed.
