Match report: England hit Scots for six
England kicked off their Euro 2017 campaign with a 6-0 rout of Scotland thanks to a Jodie Taylor hat-trick and further goals from Ellen White, Jordan Nobbs and Toni Duggan.
England started the game like a house on fire and could have gone ahead on 2 minutes Nobbs tried her luck from just outside the box before it was blocked by Leanne Crichton.
From the resulting corner captain Steph Houghton thought she had put her side but she headed just wide of the target. Gemma Fay in the Scotland goal then had to be alert as she kept out a low Nobbs shot on seven minutes palming the ball away from danger.
Mark Sampson’s time however did take the lead on 10 minutes as Lucy Bronze played a defence splitting pass to Jodie Taylor and she tucked the ball into the net past Fay with ease. It could have been two minutes later as Fran Kirby hit a snapshot but that was well blocked by Vailia Barsley.

Barsley then made another good block on 24 minutes as Nobbs crossed for Jill Scott but her header was well blocked by the Scottish right back and cleared. Two minutes later England had their second as Taylor was left unmarked from a set piece before she planted her right foot effort past Fay and into the net.

Scotland’s first sight off goal came through Manchester City’s Jane Ross after Crichton played her in but she fired wayward over the top. England came close a third on 32 minutes as Demi Stokes pulled the ball back for Scott but her effort crashed off the woodwork.
However it was to be three a minute later as Ellen White slotted the ball into the net with ease after some neat build up play from her side. Three could have turned into four before the break as Bronze crossed for White but she scooped her effort wide of the target.

England were too hot to handle for their old rivals and on the stroke of the interval should have had four as Taylor was played in By Nobbs but her attempt was well saved by Fay.
Scotland had the first opening of the second half as Caroline Weir fired wide of goal from just outside the box the ball sliding wide of Karen Bardsley’s goal. Ross then had another chance to pull a goal back as she volleyed wide after meeting a corner perfectly.

England then grabbed their fourth as Taylor grabbed her treble as White had headed the ball down for her to smash the ball low into the net with aplomb. Scotland were working their socks off and they should have pulled a goal back when Lana Clelland crossed for new Arsenal singing Lisa Evans before her shot was saved by Bardsley.
Clelland then had a good opportunity of her own as Frankie Brown put her through but she shot wide of the target. England then grabbed their fifth as Nobbs scored a real beauty as the ball fell to her from a corner and she whistled a volley into the top corner.
