The draw for the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship took place today in Miami as participating nations found out who they would be competing against in the group stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 qualifying tournament.
The current holders, Canada will not be defending their title as they have earned an automatic qualification spot as the hosts of the World Cup.
Result of the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship draw
Group A: USA, Trinidad & Tobago, Guatemala, Haiti
Group B: Costa Rica, Mexico, Jamaica, Martinique
There are 3.5 World Cup berths up for grabs. The teams finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd qualify for the world cup whilst the 4th place finisher will compete in a play-off against an opponent from the Copa America (CONMEBOL’s World Cup qualifiers). It should be noted that if Martinique advances, they will not qualify for the world cup since they are not FIFA-recognized.
