Defending Champions India have been clubbed with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan in Group A of the SAFF Women’s Championship which kicks-off on September 7th 2012 in Colombo. The final is slated for September 16th. Group B comprises of Nepal, Pakistan, Maldives and Afghanistan.

India play their opening match against Bangladesh on September 7th, the second match against hosts Sri Lanka on September 9th and their last Group League match against Bhutan on September 11th. Both the semifinals are scheduled for September 14th.

 

South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) is organizing the 2nd SAFF Women Championship from September 7th to 17th in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Eight SAARC countries are participating in the championship.

Holcim Cement is sponsoring the event.

The inaugural championship was held in Chittagong, Bangladesh in 2010 but 2011 edition could not be held which was supposed to be held in Sri Lanka.

lack of sponsors for the championship was the reason behind not organizing the tournament in Sri Lanka.

Nepal were beaten by India in the final of first SAFF Championship.
